Tapas Roy Made Pro-Tem Speaker, Set To Be WB Assembly Speaker

Kolkata: Manicktala BJP MLA-designate Tapas Roy took oath as pro-tem speaker from West Bengal governor RN Ravi at Lok Bhavan in presence of chief minister Suvendu Adhikari and his cabinet colleagues on Tuesday.
Mr Roy later took a swipe at Trinamul Congress supremo and former CM Mamata Banerjee who earlier used to ask opposition to seal it's mouth with tape. He sought her party this time to add tape on its mouth to stay silent.
As pro-tem speaker, he will conduct the swearing-in ceremony of all the winning candidates of BJP, Trinamul Congress, Congress, CPI(M), Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) and Indian Secular Front as MLAs in the next two days.
Though the state Assembly has 294 seats, 290 MLAs will take oath from Mr Roy since polling at Falta constituency has been countermanded and Mr Adhikari and AJUP founder Humayun Kabir won in two seats each, which requires both of them to vacate one seat each for the bypoll.
The first half of Wednesday will see the swearing-in of Mr Adhikari, his cabinet colleagues and those elected from seats in the North Bengal districts and Murshidabad. In the second half, MLA-elects from Nadia, North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas districts will take their oath.
On Thursday, winners of seats in Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, East Medinipur, Jhargram, West Medinipur, Bankura, Purulia, Burdwan East, Burdwan West and Birbhum will take their oath in two sessions. The Assembly Speaker’s election will be held on Friday.
BJP Legislature Party is all set to nominate Mr Roy for the post for his clean image and past experience of serving as the parliamentary affairs minister and deputy chief whip during his stint in the TMC.
