Telangana: Security Tightened Ahead of LS Polls in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: The state police have made elaborate security arrangements in all 17 Lok Sabha constituencies and the Secunderabad Cantonment Assembly segment in Telangana state to ensure conduct of fair polling and prevent untoward incidents, Director General of Police (DGP) Ravi Gupta.
He said the security drill comprises a strategic deployment of law enforcement agencies, including 73,414 civil police personnel, 500 sections of TS Special Police, 164 companies of Central armed police force, three companies of Tamil Nadu SAP, 2088 personnel from other departments, and 7,000 Home Guards sourced from other states.
He said the police had set up a network of 482 fixed static teams, 462 static surveillance teams (SSTs), 89 inter-state border checkposts, and 173 inter-district check posts.
"Mobile police units have been mobilized to intercept and thwart any attempts of illegal transportation of money, liquor, or other illicit materials. Telangana State Police seized cash amounting to Rs186.14 crores, along with substantial confiscations of liquor, narcotic drugs, precious metals, and other inducements. A total of 8,863 FIRs for offences under the Excise Act, Narcotics Act, Indian Penal Code (IPC), and Representation of the People Act (RP Act) have been filed," the DGP said.
In the tri-commissionerate area of Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda, police heightened security at the 8,293 polling locations, including 7,035 polling stations. Joining them were Central armed police forces, and personnel from the TS Special Police, quick reaction teams, special operation teams and task force.
FSTs and SSTs were checking for election code violations, working in three shifts. Strict measures are in place to handle offenders. The Hyderabad police have executed 478 non-bailable warrants (NBWs) and seized cash, alcohol, drugs, and precious metals totalling Rs.31.2 crore in the city.
The Rachakonda commissionerate, has also implemented robust security measures under the supervision of DCPs and ACPs. It has deployed eight inter-district check posts, 29 FSTs and 25 SSTs. It conducted 114 flag marches.
In the Cyberabad commissionerate ACPs have been assigned to all Assembly segments to coordinate with election authorities. and 23 FSTs and 24 SSTs are in operation.
Polling location officers have been appointed and trained to manage the entire polling process. Thirteen CAPF companies have been deployed in various areas, with paramilitary CAPF guarding two EVM storage points and six distribution and reception centres.
