Telugu Actress Rachana Wins MP Election

Hyderabad: Popular actress Rachana Banerjee who became a household name in Tollywood with films like 'Bavagaru Bagunnara', 'Rayadu' and 'Sultan' has made her mark in the political arena too as she won Hooghly MP seat for the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) by winning against BJP’s sitting-MP Locket Chatterjee. She worked with Telugu stars Chiranjeevi and Balakrishna and also with Mohan Babu. "She also won appreciation for her performance-oriented roles in films like 'Kanyadanam' and 'Pilla Nachindi' and made a name for herself," says a source. "Later, she moved to Bengali and Odia films and extended her acting career," he adds. She was last seen in the 2002 film ‘Lahiri Lahiri Lahirilo’ alongside Nandamuri Harikrishna.'

She joins Bollywood actress Kangna Ranaut, who also did Telugu films 'Ee Niranjan' and Tamil film 'Thalaivi' and won comfortably from Mandi Parliament Constituency in Himachal Pradesh. However, actor-turned-politician Navneet Kaur who couldn't win Amaravati Parliament Constituency this time had done more Telugu films like 'Seenu Vasanthi Lakshmi'. 'Sathruvu', 'Roommates', and 'Maharadhi' and proved her acting mettle even in special appearances in films like 'Style' and 'Ranam'. "Navneet Kaur did more films than Kangna Ranaut and was quite popular among Telugu viewers from 2000 to 2010.' he adds.
Telugu superstars Pawan Kalyan and Balakrishna won Pithapuram and Hindupur Assembly seats to add glamour to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
