Second Autopsy Done In Twisha Sharma Case
The second autopsy was conducted following a directive by the Madhya Pradesh high court: Reports

BHOPAL: The last rites of former actor-model Twisha Sharma, whose death at her marital home on May 12 triggered public outrage, were performed in Bhopal on Sunday after a second autopsy was conducted.
The second post-mortem, carried out by a team of senior doctors from AIIMS, Delhi at AIIMS, Bhopal, lasted nearly three hours. The procedure was conducted following a directive of the Madhya Pradesh high court.
The body had been preserved at the AIIMS, Bhopal mortuary since May 13 after the family refused to accept it, questioning the initial police investigation and seeking a second autopsy.
“It was very difficult to take Twisha’s body to Delhi for cremation and hence, we decided to do her last rites in Bhopal,” her father Navnidhi Sharma said.
Family members were called to identify the body before the second autopsy as per protocol.
“It was very difficult to identify the body since the body had been preserved for around 10 days in the mortuary causing some changes in the body,” a family member said.
The body was identified based on birthmarks and other features, her brother Harshit Sharma said.
The first post-mortem conducted at AIIMS, Bhopal had cited the cause of death as “asphyxia due to antemortem hanging by ligature”. The family had challenged the findings and approached the high court seeking a second examination.
The family also welcomed the Supreme Court taking suo motu cognisance of the case.
The Madhya Pradesh high court is scheduled to hear pleas filed by the family and the state government challenging the anticipatory bail granted to the deceased’s mother-in-law, a retired district judge and an accused in the case.
Twisha’s husband Samarth Singh, the main accused, was arrested recently while attempting to surrender in a Jabalpur court and was remanded to seven-day custody on Saturday.
