Vadodara Crash Accused Was Driving High on Marijuana: Police

Forensic tests confirm all three in Holi night accident were under the influence; fresh NDPS case filed

Rakshit Chaurasia, the main accused in the tragic Holi night car crash that killed a woman and injured seven others in Vadodara, was under the influence of marijuana at the time of the incident, police confirmed on Friday.

Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) tests revealed that Chaurasia and his two friends had consumed marijuana before the accident. The trio has now been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, police said. Chaurasia was caught on video shortly after the crash shouting “another round, another round,” a clip that went viral and drew widespread outrage.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Panna Momaya told The Times of India that all three individuals tested positive for ganja. “Chaurasia was high on the intoxicant while driving. We filed a separate case under the NDPS Act against all three and added a section for driving under the influence of drugs under the Motor Vehicles Act in the original FIR against Chaurasia,” she said.

The car involved in the incident belonged to Pranshu Chauhan, who was inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. On Friday, police also arrested Chauhan, who now faces legal action alongside Chaurasia and the third friend.

The fatal crash took place on March 25, the night of Holi, when Chaurasia reportedly lost control of the car, leading to the woman’s death and leaving seven others injured. The case has triggered renewed concerns over reckless driving and drug abuse during festive celebrations.

Police say further investigation is underway to determine the full sequence of events and the extent of responsibility of each of the accused.
