Woman Loses Legs After Train Runs Over in Mumbai
Hyderabad: In a shocking incident, a woman was run over by a train at Mumbai's Belapur station on Monday morning. She survived but lost both her legs.
The woman was heading to Thane but stumbled and fell on the tracks while attempting to board the crowded train. One of the train's compartments ran over her as it was already moving.
The train started reversing after co-passengers and security personnel raised the alarm on the platform.
A video captured at the station shows the train reversing slowly as passengers lean to catch a glimpse of the woman. Police can be seen asking people to keep a safe distance. Eventually, the woman comes into view. Her feet are bloodied and tries to sit up with difficulty as policemen leap into the tracks to help her.
The heavy downpour last night has led to waterlogging in various areas in and near Mumbai. The flooding in areas such as Kurla and Chunabhatti has disrupted the movement of local trains.
As many trains were canceled and delayed, people coming from the suburbs to work in Mumbai faced a tough time getting onto the overcrowded trains.
As no train was going to Thane through Belapur station for many hours, a huge crowd had gathered. Upon the arrival of the train, numerous people were trying to get in, and that's when the woman lost her step and fell on the tracks.
Life in Mumbai has been completely disrupted by the heavy rains. Colleges and schools have declared holidays, and airlines have rerouted flights to the city.
