World Environment Day Celebrated with Enthusiasm
Visakhapatnam: The World Environment Day was celebrated in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday. Various organisations and institutions came together to observe the global event.
The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) personnel stationed here took proactive steps to mark the occasion. A special tree plantation drive was organised at the Coast Guard Residential Area in Malkapuram, where 150 personnel participated, planting a total of 350 saplings.
Additionally, a coastal clean-up initiative was undertaken at Rushikonda beach, where volunteers collected and disposed of 50 bags of waste, highlighting the significance of coastal conservation efforts.
Joining hands with the Coast Guard, the Eastern Naval Command undertook Beach Cleanup and Plantation drives across all coastal states on the East Seaboard. The large-scale participation of Naval, DSC, and Defence Civilian personnel, along with their families, underscored the commitment towards environmental preservation.
Meanwhile, Waltair Division of the East Coast Railway Women’s Welfare Organization (ECoRWWO) led significant environmental initiatives in the region. Under the theme of Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience, the division organized awareness rallies and tree planting drives, emphasizing collective responsibility in safeguarding natural heritage.
The observance of World Environment Day extended to corporate entities as well, with the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, represented by the Rastriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), playing a pivotal role. Atul Bhatt, CMD of RINL, reiterated the organization's commitment to environmental protection, highlighting efforts such as extensive rainwater harvesting and maintaining green cover.
RINL's emphasis on clean and green technologies, including waste utilization and mitigation measures, sets a benchmark for sustainable industrial practices.
