NDA govt to revive Krishnapatnam port, says Somireddy
Sarvepalli MLA Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy has said the NDA government would revive the Krishnapatnam Port Container Terminal project in Nellore district.
The announcement comes as the state government signals its intent to restore the idling port's operational efficiency.
In a meeting with Adani Krishnapatnam Port management on Friday, the MLA joined by leaders from Telugu Desam, BJP, Jana Sena, and CPI, discussed the pressing issues including the terminal's idle state, labour wages, and economic repercussions.
Expressing disappointment over the port's current condition under Adani's management, Somireddy highlighted its pivotal role in the local economy. "Before 2019, the port handled 10 lakh containers annually, contributing `900-1000 crore to the state government and providing livelihood for 12,000 persons," he said.
"We expected the container traffic to increase to 20 lakh tonnes under Adani's management," Somireddy said and challenged former minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy to witness the terminal's current state. He pledged to approach both state and central governments for support. “We shall engage with Adani personally to restore the port's former prominence,” he said.
