Pipeline Blast at UltraTech Cement Plant Claims 2 Lives, 16 Injured
Hot material falls from third floor at Budawada Ultra Tech, injuring workers. CM Naidu orders probe and compensation
Vijayawada: Two daily wage workers were killed and the condition of three others was critical following a pipeline blast at the Ultra Tech cement company in Jaggayyapet of NTR district on Sunday.
One of the deceased was Avula Venkatesh, a resident of Budawada while the details of the were not available.
Chillakallu police told Deccan Chronicle that 16 persons were injured in the blast around 11am. “The pipeline was carrying clinker (raw cement powder). It fell on the workers when the pipeline burst, resulting in severe, fatal burn injuries to two workers. The condition of the three others undergoing treatment at a hospital is critical,” police said.
Police said eight injured workers were shifted to the Andhra Hospital in Gollapudi and eight others to the Manipal Hospital.
Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu has directed the officials to ensure better treatment to the injured. He also asked CMO officials to initiate action against the factory management and submit to him a comprehensive probe report. He promised ex-gratia assistance to the victims and compensation to them from the factory management.
The Jaggayyapet MLA, Sriram Rajagopal Tataiah, along with the NTR District police commissioner visited the injured workers at the Manipal Hospital. Political parties sought adequate compensation to the deceased.
