ACB to open case dossier of arrested ACP Umamaheswara

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Central Crime Station (CCS) Assistant Commissioner of Police T.S. Umamaheswara Rao, who was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), had allegedly shown favours to businessman P. Pramod Kumar for his political links. Rao, who worked in CID earlier, had obtained a posting as ACP, Ibrahimpatnam, so that he could help Pramod Kumar.

The ACB may take police custody of Rao for questioning him on his irregularities over past few years. On March 16, 2021, when Rao worked as ACP, CID, then Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar had transferred five cases — three registered in Jubilee Hills and two in Banjara Hills to Rao for investigation, allegedly due to political pressure.

Of the five cases, Pramod Kumar was a complainant in three cases and accused in one. Interestingly, all the cases were closed while one case is pending for trial.
On June 22, 2019, the Jubilee Hills police registered a case against Pramod Kumar under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust),420 (cheating) and 506 (criminal intimidation) following a complaint lodged by one Sandeep, a resident of Road No. 4, Banjara Hills that he had given seven sets of jewelry to Pramod Kumar.

Later, when he called Pramod Kumar for return of jewellery, his employee told him that he was on a foreign trip. The complainant later learnt that Pramod pledged his jewelry and brought a brand-new high-end vehicle SUV (TS 09 FE 4343) by paying a Rs 30 lakh down payment. In the case, no action was taken even though the case was handed over to Rao.

In 2020, the Banjara Hills police registered a case in which Pramod Kumar was a complainant. Pramod Kumar, along with others, planned to do liquor business and invested some amount. However, a dispute arose between Pramod Kumar and his partners. The status of the case shows `transferred'. Other cases in which Pramod Kumar was a complainant were either compromised, closed, action dropped or pending for trial.
