Andhra Pradesh CM Naidu reviews floods situation, asks officials to save lives and property

Naidu reviewed the flood situation in various districts with collectors, SPs and other officials in online mode from his residence at Undavalli

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has advised the authorities to be vigilant and avoid loss of life and property in the heavy rains and floods across Andhra Pradesh.

Naidu reviewed the flood situation in various districts with collectors, SPs and other officials in online mode from his residence at Undavalli. He asked the collectors of eight rain and flood-affected districts to be alert as ‘heavy to very heavy rain’ was forecast.

The CM said people should be alerted based on the forecast on rains and floods from the meteorological department. “Plan in advance to ensure that there is no loss of life and property,” he said.

The normal rainfall so far this year was 185 mm and 244 mm while 31 per cent additional rainfall has been recorded across the state.

Naidu noted that 13 cm rainfall was recorded in some places. “There should be continuous monitoring of the flow into pond embankments and stream bunds. Godavari embankments were weakened due to illegal mining of sand and soil at will in recent years.”

The CM advised officials of the irrigation and revenue departments to work hand-in-hand and make decisions as per the flood manual.

The Alluri Sitarama Raju, West Godavari, East Godavari, Konaseema, Kakinada district collectors, SPs and officials of respective departments participated in the conference.
