AP reeling again under heat wave

Visakhapatnam: Many parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema reeled under heat wave conditions on Friday with Kavali and Ongole recording a maximum temperature of 45 °C each.

Bapatla sizzled at 44.8°C, followed by Jangamaheswarapuram at 44.5°C, Amaravati 44.2°C, Nandigama 44.1°C, Nellore 44.1°C, Tirupati 43.9°C, Nandyal 42.5°C, Gannavaram 42.1°C, Kurnool 42°C and Kadapa 42°C. The rest of the state recorded maximum temperatures between 35°C and 40°C.

The heat wave conditions prevailed in Bapatla, Kavali and Ongole. In the agency area of ASR district, Lambasinghi recorded 38.1 degrees. AP recorded eight heat wave days in May-2024.

Vizag city and the surrounding coastal districts experienced humid weather conditions due to moisture incursion in the atmosphere. The relative humidity oscillated between 70 to 80 per cent in parts of the CAP. The humidity levels are expected to reduce after the onset of the monsoon.

A report from IMD-Amaravati said parts of CAP may experience hot and humid weather conditions for two more days.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon has advanced into remaining parts of northeast Bay of Bengal and some parts of northwest Bay of Bengal, remaining parts of Tripura, Meghalaya and Assam and most parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.

The weather office said conditions are favorable for further advancement of southwest monsoon into some more parts of central Arabian Sea, remaining parts of south Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep area and Kerala, some parts of Karnataka, some more parts of Tamil Nadu and Southwest Bay of Bengal by Monday.
