Assam to Recruit 35,000 SSA Teachers in Regular Roles

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma announces special recruitment drive to convert 35,000 SSA contractual teachers into regular roles, enhancing job security

Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said that his government has decided to start a special recruitment drive to accommodate 35000 Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers who are serving as contractual teachers in regular services.

Informing that in the wake of a supreme court order the state cabinet can’t regularise the services of contractual teachers, Mr Sarma told reporters, “We have decided to create a fresh vacancy of 35000 regular teachers in SSAon which only contractual teachers would be able to apply. After recruitment of these 35000 teachers, 35000 posts of contractual teachers will be dissolved.”

"We are committed to enhancing the quality of education across Assam," said the chief minister pointing out that the special recruitment drive aims to streamline the process of regularization within a timeline of 4 to 5 months. This proactive approach seeks to address long-standing concerns regarding job security and career prospects for SSA teachers in the state.

Informing that the state cabinet took this decision to resolve the long pending issue of SSA teachers, Mr Sarma said that the cabinet has also taken note of frequent charges of two-wheelers and three-wheelers being harassed in the name of various fines by various enforcement agencies. “We have decided that henceforth two wheelers can be fined only for violating helmet and three-wheelers will be fined after committing an offence repeatedly for three time,” said the chief minister adding that such fine was contributing only Rs 7 to 8 crore to the state exchequer but there was an impression that his government was collecting huge money from poor people who owns two-wheelers and three wheelers.
