BJP Worker Murdered in West Bengal's Post-Poll Violence; Head Taken

Kolkata: A BJP worker was allegedly murdered at Krishnanagar in Nadia of West Bengal, marking the start of post-poll violence in the state. The victim, Hafizul Sheikh, 30, from Kaliganj had joined the BJP about three months ago.

According to the BJP, a gang of 10 pesons, backed by the TMC, shot Sheikh dead at around 6.30 pm on Saturday at the Chandpur bus stop area. Krishnanagar BJP candidate Amrita Roy visited the spot on Sunday along with her party leaders.

She alleged, “The body was beheaded. The head was taken away by the attackers. This shows that they were taking revenge as he had joined our party and worked for the Lok Sabha election campaign. TMC carried out the murder out of fear.”

In yet another incident, BJP worker Ramen Shau, party agent at a booth in Beliaghata under Kolkata North parliamentary constituency, was beaten up by TMC supporters.

State BJP president Sukanta Majumdar warned the TMC goons of getting an ‘Uttar Pradesh treatment’ and facing ‘encounter’ after the change of power in the state. Meanwhile, BJP has sought repoll in some booths at Mathurapur and Diamond Harbour seats over electoral malpractices.
