Chhattisgarh CM Revives Weekly 'Jan Darshan' for Public Grievances

The weekly ‘Jan Darshan’ programme was first introduced by the three-time chief minister Raman Singh during his first tenure in the office

Raipur: Chhattisgarh chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Wednesday decided to revive the weekly public grievance redressal system, christened as ‘Jan Darshan’, done away with during the previous Congress government in the state.

An official spokesman of the Chhattisgarh government said that Mr Sai was scheduled to host his first weekly ‘Jan Darshan’ programme at his official residence here on Thursday to ensure speedy disposal of grievances of people.

Mr Sai is scheduled to not only hear the grievances from the people personally and take steps to address them quickly on the occasion but also take feedback directly from the people on the implementation of various government schemes and programmes, the spokesman said.

He is also scheduled to seek suggestions from the people to help him deliver good governance.

The weekly ‘Jan Darshan’ programme was first introduced by the three-time chief minister Raman Singh during his first tenure in the office.

People from across the state used to throng to the chief minister’s official bungalow here on the particular day to take their issues directly to the chief minister for their speedy disposal.

Secretaries of all the departments remain present at the programme to deal with public issues related to their departments.

“The Jan Darshan programme was very popular and helped the former chief minister Mr Singh cultivate the image of "a common men’s chief minister", a senior BJP leader said.

Mr Singh also used to get feedback directly from the people regarding implementation of various government schemes then.

The programme was dropped when Congress returned to power in Chhattisgarh in the 2018 Assembly elections.

BJP stormed to power in Chhattisgarh by trouncing Congress in the 2023 Assembly elections, leading Mr Sai to head the BJP government in the state.
