Congress seeks to replicate Southern Odisha success across state
This renewed strategy comes in the wake of a significant political shift in Odisha. In the 2024 elections, the BJP achieved its first-ever majority in both parliamentary and assembly polls.

Bhubaneswar: Buoyed by its electoral successes in southern Odisha, the Congress party is gearing up to replicate its winning strategy across the state. In the 2024 legislative assembly elections, the party secured 10 seats in the region, marking a significant political comeback.
At a strategic meeting held on Sunday at Congress Bhawan in Bhubaneswar, key leaders, including Odisha in-charge Ajay Kumar Lallu, MP Saptagiri Ulaka, and Congress Legislative Party leader Ramachandra Kadam, discussed plans to expand the successful campaign model statewide.
“It is time to unite under the new PCC team. Congress has good prospects in Odisha. We aim to strengthen our grassroots network to be well-positioned to form the next government. Our focus is to replicate the success seen in southern Odisha across other regions,” said MP Saptagiri Ulaka.
The discussions centered on enhancing grassroots mobilisation and addressing voter concerns, which were instrumental in the party’s recent victories. The party now aims to strategically implement this model across Odisha to expand its influence and win more constituencies.
Party leaders and district presidents shared insights, emphasising a collective effort to rejuvenate the party's presence statewide. However, Congress also acknowledges the challenges of adapting its strategy to suit the diverse socio-political landscapes of different regions in Odisha. The leadership emphasised unity and coordinated efforts to strengthen the party’s organisation and voter outreach.
“Southern Odisha’s success model will be applied across the state as we aim to rebuild the organisation. We are confident of performing well in the 2029 elections,” said senior Congress leader Ramachandra Kadam.
This renewed strategy comes in the wake of a significant political shift in Odisha. In the 2024 elections, the BJP achieved its first-ever majority in both parliamentary and assembly polls. The party secured 20 out of 21 Lok Sabha seats with a 45 per cent vote share and won 78 out of 147 assembly seats, ending former CM Naveen Patnaik’s 24-year rule.
Political analysts attribute BJP’s success to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ‘Double Engine’ narrative, bolstered by high-profile rallies and growing anti-BJD sentiment. In this evolving political landscape, Congress is striving to regain its foothold by leveraging its southern Odisha success story statewid
