Andhra Pradesh: 69 held, stolen property worth Rs 37 lakh recovered

Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam city police arrested 69 offenders and recovered stolen property worth Rs 37,12,715 in June last month. Total of 99 incidents had been reported, involving theft of property valued at Rs 78,60,266.


Addressing a press conference on Sunday , commissioner of police Sankha Brata Bagchi said in June alone, 80 cases had been registered, culminating in the arrest of 57 adults and 12 juveniles.

The detected cases included 66 incidents reported in June and 14 older cases, covering various theft categories, such as robbery, house break-ins, auto and car thefts, ordinary thefts, snatchings, wire thefts, and pick-pocketing.

Bagchi said the recovered property included 381.93 grams of gold, 501.36 grams of silver, Rs 7,94,050 in cash, 24 motorcycles, an auto-rickshaw, a car, 12 mobile phones, a Canon 800 camera, an amplifier, 135.9 kilogrammes of copper wire, 20 kilogrammes of aluminum wire, a refrigerator, and a TV.

The commissioner said a total 338 CCTV cameras have been installed at strategic locations throughout the city to enhance surveillance and deter criminal activity.

Additionally, crime wing officers have conducted 120 crime awareness meetings to educate the public on various types of crimes, criminal modus operandi, and the importance of CCTV installations. Special night patrols are also being conducted in crime-prone areas.

Police also made significant strides in recovering stolen or lost mobile phones. Through the dedicated CHATBOT service and CEIR Portal, they recovered 275 mobile phones worth Rs 41.25 lakhs in June alone. To date, a total of 2,784 mobile phones valued at Rs 4.17 crore have been recovered, the commissioner added.
