Visakhapatnam:A married couple has been arrested for allegedly assaulting their tenant in the PM Palem area of Visakhapatnam. The details were shared during a press conference held on Monday.
The incident, which occurred on January 24 at approximately 11am on Mithilapur Vuda Colony Road, was the culmination of a three-month-long rental dispute between the parties involved. According to police reports, the accused, identified as Marupalli Vennela and her husband Bandaru Raju, physically attacked their 44-year-old tenant, Vankala Nagalakshmi.
Witnesses at the scene reported that despite attempts by bystanders to intervene, the couple continued their assault, allegedly dragging the victim by her hair for approximately two metres along the road.
Following a complaint filed by the victim, the PM Palem Police registered a case under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Sections 74, 115(2), 79, 351(3), and R/w 3(5) BNS. The case was registered under Crime No. 78/2025.
The accused couple was apprehended on January 26 and has been taken into custody. Police officials confirmed that both suspects are being presented before the court with a remand report.
