Cyber scam: Man duped of ₹7.4 lakh in fake hotel review scheme

Hyderabad:The ongoing modus operandi in cybercrime, the review and rating is trending and the loss of amount ranges from five figures to seven figures. In one such case in Rachakonda,A private company employee lost `7.4 lakh to cyber fraudsters who offered money for rating five star hotels and restaurants. The 33-year-old victim from Jawaharnagar was initially was paid Rs 8,250 but he was asked to pay money to move up the rank.

Whenever the victim wanted to withdraw money, he was flooded with additional tasks. The scammers provided multiple bank accounts to pay the fee, and returned money and other bank accounts. to complete the work and take the payment. He completed 21 tasks and paid Rs 7,45,750 in nine transactions before he realised he was defrauded and moved the Rachakonda police.

Woman loses Rs 14.8 L in luxury brand fake sales scam

Hyderabad:Cyber fraudsters cheated a 32-year-old IT professional of `14.8 lakh after being lured into a fraudulent part-time job to promote high-end fashion products. The victim was approached on a social messaging site and was offered a promoter for the brand.

The victim agreed and started working on January 16. She received `800 upon registration and was added to a group where she was given links to promote luxury brands on social media. After completing her first task, she was told to invest `10,000, for which she received `5,977. Encouraged by this, she invested `18,580 next and received `37,800 in return.

As the scheme progressed, the investment amounts kept increasing but the payments were always less. In total, she ended up transferring `14,87,648, while the so-called "profit" she could get to her bank account was a mere ₹14,397.

Realtor Boini Mahender Yadav booked for cheating elderly businessman

Hyderabad:In a court-referred case where a septuagenarian was cheated of `94 lakh in a land sale deal, Uppal police registered a case against realtor Boini Mahender Yadav, a Congress leader. Yadav was booked for criminal intimidation, cheating and criminal breach of trust.

Uppal police received orders from Malkajgiri district court after the police failed to take action on the complaint of the victim, a 70-year-old businessman, owns three plots measuring 452 square yards at Mohannagar in Kothapet.

The senior citizen struck a deal with Yadav for `94,92,000 in July last. The accused issued three cheques for `22.5 lakh each and a fourth for `4.92 lakh. One of the cheques for `22.5 lakh was dishonored by the bank, and the signatures did not match on the other two of like amount. The victim received `4.92 lakh in cash in place of the fourth cheque.

When the complainant asked about the mismatching signatures, Yadav allegedly threatened him. He reported the incident to the police who were reluctant to take action. The victim them moved court.


Drugs worth Rs 88L seized in five raids

Hyderabad: Excise police raided five places and seized NDPS drugs weighing 9.636 kg, including 410 grams of hashish oil, all worth `88,490. The special task force and district task force teams conducted raids at Borabanda, Malkajgiri, Ghatkesar, Warasiguda and in Sangareddy district. Excise and enforcement director V.B. Doctor Dies as Car Crashes, One Injured

Hyderabad: A 24-year-old house surgeon, Dr V. Jaswanth, died and another person was injured when their car crashed into a median near Khanapur in Narsingi early on Saturday. The survivor has been identified as another house surgeon, Dr Bhumika.

Narsingi police said they were returning from a wedding at Shankarpally when the incident occurred. Dr Jaswant died on the spot. Dr Bhumika suffered severe injuries and was taken to a hospital.

Four arrested in Balanagar murder case

Hyderabad: The Balanagar police arrested four persons for their involvement in the murder of a 42-year-old autorickshaw driver, Krishna, and dumping his body near a pile of garbage, Balanagar DCP K. Suresh said on Saturday. Locals had called the police on spotting the body.

Police identified the accused as Akula Krishna, Madaraboina Ravi, Gurram Naresh and Gambu Shanker. Police said the murder was the result of a dispute over the repair of Krishna’s vehicle.

Police said the accused took Krishna to Edupayala, got him drunk and beat him up before taking him to the industrial estate near Balanagar and beating him to death. They left body near a garbage pile.

Fake notes worth Rs 11 L seized

Hyderabad:The central zone task force and Nampally police arrested Pabbati Murali Krishna, 38, red-handed while he was trying to sell counterfeit currency to a customer at Bazaar Ghat on Saturday.

Police seized fake `500 currency notes with a face value of over `11.1 lakh from him, task force DCP Y.V.S. Sudheendra said. , DCP task force said. He was offering fake currency of `1 lakh face value for `14,000 in genuine notes.

Police said he used a colour scanner, a laminator, heater, paper cutter and screen printing wooden frame to print the fake notes with the water mark of Mahatma Gandhi’s visage. He applied the windowed security thread with a heating machine.

5 arrested in fraud case

Hyderabad:The city cybercrime police arrested five persons, including a woman, for allegedly impersonating personnel of a job portal and cheating those seeking online jobs.

The fraudsters contacted the victim over phone and offered to hire him to writing reviews for hotels. They introduced a concept called "Ladder," claimed the victim’s account was frozen due to incorrect actions and pressured him to pay `1,93,760, CCS DCP Dara Kavitha said.

Police, acting on a complaint by the victim on January 11 arrested C. Vijay Sagar, Paladugula Devakrupa, V.V. Shiva Shankar, Betham Balaraju and Mantri N.S. Prajwal Reddy.

Vehicles gutted at dump yard in Bandlaguda

Hyderabad: Over a dozen seized vehicles parked in a dump yard by the Bandlaguda police were gutted in a fire mishap at about 6.45 pm on Saturday evening. The police personnel initially tried to extinguish the fire and called in the fire department later. , police sources disclosed. It is suspected that fire was initiated after some unidentified persons threw a live cigarette on the dry grass where the vehicles were parked.
