Karimnagar Youth Duped of Rs 16 Lakh, Girl Flees to Australia

Karimnagar youth defrauded by lover, loses Rs 16 lakh; attempts suicide. Police launch investigation against the accused who fled to Australia

Karimnagar: A girl cheated a youth Rs 16 lakh in the name of love and fled to Australia. The father of the victim, Mallaiah, lodged a complaint with the LMD police station under Thimmapur mandal in Karimnagar district on Saturday.

After learning about the fraud, the youth tried to commit suicide by consuming pesticide. He is undergoing treatment in a private hospital here. His condition is said to be stable.

According to sub-inspector Cheralu, the victim, Maadana Nagaraju, resident of Thimmapur village went to Coimbatore to learn yoga at the Isha Foundation. There he was introduced to one Dammu Kamala alias Sandya alias Priyanka, a resident of Visakhapatnam.

Nagaraju and Priyanka started a live-in relationship. Later they came to Karimnagar and decided to marry. Priyanka then started taking money from Nagaraju in the name of purchasing gold and other items.

Nagaraju was in a business partnership in a private hospital but later he left the partnership and secured his share of money. After collecting around Rs 16 lakh from Nagaraju, Priyanka fled to Australia stating that she had some work and would return in a few days.

Later, she called Nagaraju from Australia and demanded Rs 3 lakh and to register the two acres of land which belonged to his father in her name if he wished to marry her. Shocked after being cheated, Nagaraju went into depression and tried to end his life.

The police have registered a case against Priyanka and started an investigation.
