Karnataka CID Investigates JDS MLC Suraj Revanna's Sex Charges

CID investigates JDS MLC Suraj Revanna for alleged sexual abuse, following a victim's complaint. Family members also face various charges

Bengaluru: On the order of the State Government, sleuths of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Sunday took up investigation into the alleged ‘unnatural sex’ charge levelled by a male against Janata Dal Secular (JDS) MLC Suraj Revanna, son for former minister and JDS MLA H.D. Revanna. Suraj, arrested by the police, is elected to the Legislative Council from local bodies in Hassan district.

His younger brother Prajwal Revanna, an accused in a series of sexual exploitation of women has been remanded to police custody while his father H.D. Revanna is on bail in a rape charge.

In a written complaint to the Director General of Police, Karnataka, victim, a commerce graduate and a resident of Arkalgud taluk in Hassan, alleged that the JDS MLC Suraj Revanna committed sexual atrocity against him in a farmhouse on June 16 while the victim gave a written complaint on June 21.

A case against Suraj was filed at Holenarsipur police station and on the orders of the State Government, the sleuths of CID will take up the investigation. The Hassan Superintendent of Police has been asked to hand over files related to the case to CID sleuths.

In the complaint, the victim alleged that he went to meet Suraj, asking for a job, at a farmhouse where the MLC alleged to have sexually abused him. Suraj is alleged to have threatened the youth of dire consequences if he exposed the matter.

The victim in the complaint alleged that he remained silent out of fear and also out of shame. He accused that the MLC’s aide Shivu offered cash for him not to reveal the matter in public which he said was rejected by him.

He stated that he contemplated on taking the drastic step to end his life and alleged that associates of Suraj have been searching for him with an intention to kill.

The victim also dispatched a copy of the complaint to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Minister for Home Dr G Parameshwar.

Meanwhile, Shivakumar, a close aide of MLC Suraj in a complaint to Holenarsipur Town police on June 21 accused Chethan and his brother-in-law (identity not known) of blackmailing MLC for money. Shivakumar claimed that he is in possession of voice records wherein the victim alleged to have demanded money from the MLC and told the police that he will hand over all the evidence with him.

Suraj's uncle and Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy told reporters "Why are you asking me? What's the connection to me?" Kumaraswamy added that the law will take its course in Suraj's case.
