Bhubaneswar: A man was arrested in Odisha capital Bhubaneswar for allegedly assaulting his pregnant wife and forcibly administering an injection to terminate her pregnancy, police said on Sunday.
The accused, identified as Raghubir Nayak, was taken into custody by Bharatpur Police following a complaint lodged by the victim. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to establish the full sequence of events and gather evidence.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), Nayak, a resident of the CRPF campus under G. Udayagiri police limits in Kandhamal district, had allegedly coerced the woman into marriage through blackmail. After their marriage, the woman accused him of subjecting her to sustained mental and physical abuse.
The situation reportedly escalated after she became pregnant. In her complaint, the victim alleged that Nayak forcibly administered medication to terminate the pregnancy against her will. She further stated that she was physically assaulted during this period, which ultimately led to a miscarriage.
Police officials said they are examining all aspects of the case, including the circumstances leading to the marriage and the alleged abuse that followed.
It has also come to light that the accused’s father is an Inspector with a central paramilitary force.
