Hyderabad:The state excise police arrested a ganja smuggler for transporting the contraband into the city for Sankrantri celebrations and seized 30 kg of ganja worth Rs 7.50 lakh on Wednesday.

A special team of Tandur district task force (DTF) caught accused Shiviram Swan, 32, a native of Orissa, at the Tandoor railway station.

During interrogation he confessed to have procured ganja from his native place and came to Tandur railway station to deliver the same to a local peddler who was supposed to board Konark Express and hand over the contraband through a local peddler into city, the Excise police said.

“To avoid the main railway stations, he was waiting for a local peddler to pick up the contraband and supply it to the consumers in the city and surrounding localities when our team arrested him at the Tandoor railway station”, V.B. “Our teams acted on a tip off by the railway police and jointly with the railway police arrested the accused and seized the contraband”, the official said. The accused along with the seized contraband has been handed over to the DTF and later produced before the court.
