Afzalgunj Shootout: Vehicle Hired by Duo Tracked by Cops

Hyderabad:Afzalgunj police said they had tracked down the autorickshaw hired by the two assailants who opened fire at a travels company manager, leaving him injured. The same duo is believed to have shot dead two persons in a heist at Bidar, in which they made off with `93 lakh.

Police also recovered two trolley bags in Trimulgherry, where the duo is believed to have stopped. The police are verifying the fingerprints on the bags.

Sources said the police questioned the autorickshaw driver about the duo, their identifying features, dress and baggage and if he had overheard their conversation.

According to investigating officer Ravi Nunavath, after pumping two bullets at Mohammed Jahangir at around 6.40 pm on Thursday, the two took the autorickshaw and told the driver to drop them near a hotel in front of the Secunderabad railway station.

On seeing the heightened security at the station, they headed to Trimulgherry, where they left the bags, police said.

The police traced the autorickshaw from CCTV footage at a hotel opposite the travel agency where the shooting occurred.

It may be recalled that the duo was suspected to have shot two security guards at an ATM in Bidar, decamped with `93 lakh cash and came to Hyderabad on a bike.

They came under suspicion by an alert Jahangir, nephew of the owner of Roshan Travels, whom they approached to book tickets to Raipur in Chhattisgarh. He became suspicious and asked to check their ID papers and luggage.

At the same time, there were two Raipur-bound officers from the Karnataka police who were investigating a separate case. Panicking at this, the duo shot at Jahangir, who suffered injuries to his leg and abdomen, and escaped.

Police registered the case under Section 109 of the BNS.
