Hyderabad:A 16-year-old student from Sri Chaitanya School in Medchal, died on Tuesday after allegedly attempting suicide at home due to humiliation over unpaid school fees. The girl, who was studying her Class X at Sri Chaitanya School, succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at Yashoda Hospital.
Following the tragedy, the girl’s mother confronted the school management, accusing them of mentally harassing her daughter over pending fees. She alleged that both her children were subjected to extreme pressure, which ultimately led to daughter’s death.
“The principal humiliated my daughter in front of everyone, pushing her into depression,” she alleged. “Instead of questioning her about the fees, they could have spoken to my husband.”
She further claimed that her son was also mistreated by the school authorities for scoring low marks in English. “They harassed him so much that he fell into depression. His treatment has already cost us nearly `1 lakh, which delayed our fee payment. Despite this, my husband assured them he would pay soon,” she added.
Based on the family's complaint, the police have registered a case against the school management under charges of abetment to suicide. Notices have been issued to the management and an investigation is underway.
