Three farm labourers killed, eight injured in mishap

Three women farm labourers were killed and eight others sustained injuries when the auto rickshaw in which they were travelling was hit by an RTC bus at a place located between Narakoduru and Budampadu villages in Guntur district at about 5.15 am on Monday.

According to Chebrolu police, farm labourers were proceeding for work towards Amaravati in an auto rickshaw. Poor visibility due to dense fog was said to be one of the reasons for the mishap. All the injured were shifted to a government hospital in Guntur for treatment.

The deceased were identified as Aruna Kumari, Nancharamma, and Sitaravamma. Police booked a case, and an investigation is on.


Inscription of Harihara I found near Varkuru village

Vijayawada:A fragmentary inscription of Vijayanagara king Harihara I engraved on two sides of a slab was found near Varkuru village of Kodumudi mandal in Kurnool district.

The inscription is written in Kannada and Telugu characters, dated 1340 C.E., January 28, Friday.

It recorded the gift of two Khandugas of land in the village Kolumura, situated in Naravadi on the occasion of Sivaratri for providing food offerings to the god Sri Mallikarjunadeva of Sriparvata by Mahamandalesvara Magiya Maideva, when Bhandara Hariyappa Odesa (Harihara I) was governing from Gutti.

Resolve water issues in villages: CPI (ML)

Kurnool:CPI (ML) New Democracy district leader M. Satyanna demanded that every household in the villages receive drinking water and that the central government’s Jal Jeevan Mission scheme be implemented immediately in the Yemmiganur mandal. A protest was held on Monday in front of the rural water supply office in the town. Speaking at the protest, Satyanna said that although the central government has launched the Jal Jeevan Mission to provide drinking water taps to every village, officials have not yet put it into practice. He warned that the drinking water shortage will worsen as summer approaches and urged officials to act quickly to meet people’s needs. He also called on them to visit the villages and solve the water problems. Party leader S. Balaraju, AIKMS district leader Pedda Reddy, and others participated in the protest.


Man murdered in Tirupati’s Chennareddy Colony

Tirupati:A 40-year-old man was murdered in Chennareddy Colony, under the Alipiri Police Station limits in Tirupati city, late on Sunday night. The victim, identified as Jagadeesh, 40, worked as a cleaner for ambulances.

According to police reports, the incident occurred when Sunil, a resident of Mulakalacheruvu in Annamayya district, was allegedly misbehaving with the victim’s wife under the influence of alcohol. Jagadeesh, who witnessed the altercation, intervened and questioned Sunil about his behaviour. Enraged, Sunil attacked Jagadeesh with a sharp iron rod, striking him in the chest.

Locals rushed the injured man to S.V.R. Ruia government hospital, but he died on the way due to excessive bleeding. Police immediately arrived at the scene and took Sunil into custody. Alipiri circle inspector Rama Kishore stated that a case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.


Sachivalayam office locked over unpaid rent

Kurnool:A building rented for the Sachivalayam office was locked in Pedda Nagulavaram village of Prakasam district on Monday due to non-payment of rent. Officials have been using the building as their Sachivalayam but have not paid rent for the past six months. As a result, the owner, Tammisetty Brahmaiah, locked the building on Monday.

The authorities had rented Brahmaiah’s house for the Sachivalayam office, agreeing to pay a monthly rent of `3,500. However, the payments have been pending for six months, forcing the owner to take action. With the office locked, employees were left in distress, and the issue has been reported to mandal-level officials, asking them to resolve it quickly.
