Shops selling Chinese manja raided

Hyderabad:The task force on Friday raided shops selling kite-flying Chinese manja, which are synthetic nylon strings coated in powdered glass or metal, posing significant risk to the public, wildlife, and the environment. The police seized 987 manja bobbins and registered 14 cases across the city.

Task force additional DCP A. Srinivas Rao said Chinese manja can cause severe injuries and even fatalities, particularly to pedestrians, motorcyclists and kite enthusiasts.

"Made of non-biodegradable nylon, Chinese manja persists in the environment for years. Its improper disposal can clog drainage systems and create a hazard in urban areas. The sale and use of Chinese manja are prohibited in many states under environmental and wildlife protection laws. Its continued usage reflects a disregard for public and ecological well-being," the additional DCP said.
