Thiruvananthapuram: The emergency casualty department of a taluk hospital in Angamaly, located in the Ernakulam district of Kerala, was transformed into a movie set for an entire night to shoot a Malayalam film.
With the incident inviting sharp criticism in the media, the Kerala Human Rights Commission took serious note of the matter and registered a case concerning the film shooting in the hospital. The area intended to be fully sterilized and restricted for healthcare professionals, patients, and their attendants, was permitted for full night film shooting.
There are allegations that the entire unit, comprising 50 persons including actors and technicians, was shooting even as doctors were treating patients. People coming to the casualty wing had problems accessing the main entrance.
The rights panel has directed the health officials responsible for granting permission for the shooting to file a detailed explanation within seven days. The directive was issued to the Ernakulam district medical officer and the superintendent of Angamaly taluk hospital. The film 'Pinkli,' was shot at this location.
The Producers Association has refuted the allegations and stated that the shooting was carried out with full permission.
Meanwhile, Kerala Health Minister Veena George has sought an explanation from the director of health services regarding the matter. Previously, the hospital superintendent asserted that the authorization for the filming on Thursday night was granted in strict adherence to norms
