Five terrorists gunned down in J-K's Kulgam

Two Army jawans injured
Srinagar:Five separatist militants were killed and two Army jawans injured in a fierce gunfight raging in a remote village of Jammu and Kashmir 's southern Kulgam district, officials said on Thursday.

They said the identities of the slain men are being ascertained as the operation is still underway in the area.

The fighting broke out during a cordon-and-search operation launched in Kadder village of Kulgam's Behibagh area jointly by the Army's 34 Rashtriya Rifles, J&K police's counterinsurgency Special Operations Group (SOG) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) around Wednesday midnight after receiving "credible input"about the presence of militants there, the police sources said.

A police official said that as the joint team of security forces approached the suspected spot the hiding terrorists opened fire, triggering an encounter. During the initial exchange of fire, two security personnel were injured.
"Later, five terrorists were killed during the operation whose identities are being ascertained,” the official said.

Earlier, the Army's Srinagar -based 15 Corps which is also known as Chinar Corps in a post on 'X' said, "On 19 December 2024, based on specific intelligence input regarding presence of terrorists, a joint operation launched by Indian Army & J&K police at Kadder, Kulgam. Suspicious activity was observed by vigilant troops and on being challenged, terrorists opened indiscriminate and heavy volume of fire. Own troops effectively retaliated.Operation is in progress."
The police have identified one of the slain men as Farooq Nali and said that he was the longest surviving commander of proscribed Hizb-ul-Mujahideen outfit and involved in many terror activities.
