Harrowing time for passengers as MA flight redirected to city airport
Hyderabad: Passengers of a Malaysian Airlines (MA) flight (MH199) were in a state of panic as one of them sitting near a window seat discovered flames coming out of the wing.
All passengers were in terrible fear till the flight was redirected and landed at Rajiv Gandhi international Airport, Shamshabad, after being airborne for 22 minutes.
Later, the MA authorities gave a statement to the effect that because of a technical issue and disturbance in the engine, the flight was redirected back to Hyderabad.
At 12.15 am Thursday, the flight took off from Hyderabad airport, with the pilot telling boarded passengers to ease the seat belt and use the washroom, if they want.
The flight duration was supposedly four hours 39 minutes. However, there was a sudden announcement from the cockpit that the flight is returning to Hyderabad due the technical reasons. Meanwhile, a passenger sitting at the rear window seat saw flames on the wing. The message created a panic among passengers.
After communication between the pilot and the ATC Hyderabad, the plane was redirected to airport. Later, the authorities arranged alternative flight for the stranded passengers.
