AP Health Minister slams 'mishandling of medical services' by YSRC govt
Tirupati: Health minister Y. Satya Kumar, who conducted a surprise inspection at the SVR Ruia Government General Hospital here on Monday, criticised the previous government for turning the health department into an "unhealthy entity."
He vowed to conduct an inquiry into irregularities that occurred under the Aarogyasri health insurance scheme during Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy's tenure.
Speaking to the media, Satya Kumar stated that none of those involved in corruption in the medical and health sectors under the previous dispensation would be spared. He hoped that the central government would extend necessary cooperation to the state in revamping its healthcare infrastructure.
The minister outlined his government's commitment to cleaning up the government hospitals across the state and ensuring accountability among medical personnel.
"We will not tolerate negligence towards patients," he warned, adding that strict action would be taken against staff members for dereliction of their duties.
Satya Kumar said the X-ray machines at Ruia Hospital were outdated, forcing patients to endure long waiting times for outpatient consultations.
He accused former chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy of misusing public funds.
