India to Be 3rd Largest Economy by 2027: Amit Shah

Amit Shah highlights India's economic growth at GIS, praising Madhya Pradesh’s transformation into an investment hub

Bhopal: Union home minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said India will be the third largest economy in the world by 2027.

Addressing the valedictory session of the two-day Global Investors Summit (GIS) here, Mr. Shah said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made a commitment to the youth and 130 crore people ten years ago to make India a developed country by 2047 and the third largest economy in the world by 2027.

“The GIS of Madhya Pradesh will play a key role in realizing these targets. The Union government alone cannot ensure development of the country. The states and the Centre must work as ‘Team India’”, Mr. Shah said.

He said many dimensions of local and global investments have been achieved in this GIS . Madhya Pradesh has emerged as a major Centre of attraction for investment in the country.

Madhya Pradesh which was once considered a ‘BIMARU’ (laggard) state has been transformed by the BJP government in the state in the last two decades, he said.

He said Madhya Pradesh which was known as ‘BIMARU’ state for lack of infrastructure and basic amenities such as electricity, road and water, two decades ago, has now a road network of five lakh km, and six airports.

The state generates 31 gigawatt of electricity, of which 30 percent is green energy.

Madhya Pradesh is now known as cotton capital of India for supplying 25 percent of organic cotton of the country. The state has also earned a prime position in the country in the area of food processing.

The state has become an attractive destination for investment because of its strategic location, skilled workforce and over-all pro-business ecosystem.

The state has better access to the market than any other state in the country.
