Bengaluru: The State Government promulgated The Bangalore Palace (Utilisation and Regulation of Land) ordinance, 2025 got consent from Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot on Wednesday.
With this ordinance, the State Government is vested with powers to determine the utilization and regulation of land of Bangalore Palace in Bengaluru city (from erstwhile Mysore royal family) which spreads across 472 acres and 16 guntas.
Last Friday, the State cabinet meeting decided to come out with an ordinance for utilisation and regulation of Bangalore Palace after it found that paying Rs 3014 crore as Transferable Development Rights (TDR), as per the order of the Supreme Court, to the descendants of erstwhile Mysore royal family to use 15 acres and 39 guntas of Bangalore Palace property will burden the State Government.
The State Government plans to widen Ballari road and Jayamahal road attached to Bangalore Palace to ease vehicular congestion in Bengaluru city.
After the cabinet meeting, the Minister of Law and Parliamentary Affairs stated the decision to come out with an ordinance keeping in mind the interest of the State and paying up such a huge amount of money to a particular family would hit development works in the State.
Defending the ordinance, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah ruled out vengeance against the erstwhile Mysore royal family since scion of erstwhile Mysore royal family Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar represents Mysore-Kodagu in Lok Sabha from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Siddaramiah is a native of Mysuru.
It may be recalled here Pramoda Devi Wadiyar, a member of the erstwhile Mysore royal family had stated to challenge the Bangalore Palace (Utilisation and Regulation of Land) ordinance, 2025 in the Court.
