Karnataka Pushes Chamundi Hills Master Plan
CM Siddaramaiah initiates Chamundi Hills master plan and forms a security task force to enhance amenities for devotees
Bengaluru: Keeping in mind the needs of Chamundi Hills in the next years, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday directed officials concerned to prepare a master plan and a decision has been taken to form a Task Force for security of the devotees coming to Chamundi Hills, about 10-km from Mysuru city. Siddaramaiah is native to Mysuru district and represents Varuna Assembly seat.
He chaired the first meeting of Chamundi Kshetra Development Authority atop Chamundi Hills and the meeting assumed significance after the High Court of Karnataka vacated the stay order on the constitution of Chamundi Kshetra Development Authority. Member of erstwhile Mysore Royal Family Pramoda Devi Wadiyar challenged the constitution of Chamundi Kshetra Development Authority by the State Government. The Chief Minister said the High Court vacated the stay order on August 22.
Backing the constitution of Chamundi Kshetra Development Authority, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah the aim of the Authority is to create better amenities for devotees to the Chamundi Hills, a popular pilgrim centre in Mysuru and he stated the number of devotees to Chamundi Hills to have darshan of Goddess Chamundeshwari, the presiding deity of Mysuru, swell on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Officials have been directed to conduct a survey to identify encroachment of lands belonging to Chamundi Hills, said the Chief Minister. Apart from creating amenities for devotees, the Chief Minister said the Authority in consultation with Temple authorities will decide on installation of surveillance cameras at convenient locations. The installation of surveillance cameras will be taken-up under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Funds and Union Bank of India officials have come forward for the installation of surveillance cameras and the cameras will be installed soon.
As part of security enhancement measures in Chamundi Hills, the Chief Minister said adequate lighting arrangements will be made at the Hills to avert crimes. Besides, smoking, consumption of liquor, gutka and pan masalas have been banned at the Hills. “Steps will also be initiated to make the Hills plastic free,” he added.
As many as 23 Temples fall under the Chamundi Hills Authority, he said and stated Temples such as Varahaswamy, Bhuvaneshwari, Prasanna Krishanswamy, Kote Anjaneya Swamy and Gayathri will be renovated. Along with Temple renovation, he said, steps will be taken to develop Devi Kere, a lake atop Chamundi Hills and also a gigantic monolithic Bull statue.
The decision has been made to implement the Union Government’s ‘Prasada’ Yojana in Chamundi Hills besides cleanliness of Temples will be maintained, he said.
The Authority has been directed to expeditiously complete pending works such as drinking water supply sanctioned in 2018 and remained incomplete. Urban Development authorities have been directed to complete the drinking water works soon.
