Kesamudram, Station Ghanpur to be upgraded as municipalities

Kesamudram and Station Ghanpur upgraded to municipalities; Warangal district adds three new municipalities, boosting local governance

Warangal: After persistent demands for years, residents of Kesamudram in Mahbubabad district and Station Ghanpur in Jangaon district will soon enjoy municipal status. This was announced by the Municipal Administration Department under the Congress government.

The upgrade elevates both areas from their current status as urban panchayats to full-fledged municipalities. The move comes after prolonged delays, particularly since the BRS government’s second term beginning in 2019. Despite assurances from then municipal minister K.T. Rama Rao to address the residents' demands, no action was taken, leaving the proposals stagnant.

Recent public opinion surveys conducted in Kesamudram, Station Ghanpur, and the surrounding villages provided the necessary support for the state municipal administration to approve the formation of the new municipalities. Kesamudram municipality will encompass Kesamudram town, Ameenapuram, Dhanasari, and sub-station Thanda villages. Similarly, Station Ghanpur municipality will include Chagallu, Station Ghanpur, and Shivunipally villages.

In addition to these developments, the government has approved the expansion of Narsampet municipality in Warangal district by incorporating nine additional villages. The expanded municipality will include Maddannapet, Nagurupally, Maheshwaram, Mugudmpuram, Rajapally, Ramulu Thanda, Pashanayak Thanda, Muttojipet, and Rajupet village, the sole agency village in Narsampet mandal.

Further, the government had recently sanctioned the formation of Mulugu municipality, following initiatives led by panchayat raj minister Seethakka. This approval marks another significant step in the region’s administrative evolution.

Currently, the erstwhile Warangal district comprises nine municipalities: Parkal, Wardhannapet, Narsampet, Mahbubabad, Maripeda, Dornakal, Thorrur, Bhupalpally, and Jangaon. With the addition of Mulugu, Kesamudram, and Station Ghanpur, the total number of municipalities in the district will increase to twelve.
