Adilabad: The green crematorium (Maha Prasthanam) on the banks of the river Godavari in Mancherial is designed to give a soothing experience to people visiting here to perform the last rites of their kin.
The facility is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 11 crore. It is equipped with a puja room, separate bathrooms for men and women, water facilities, a hall and a lawn. A gigantic idol of Lord Shiva is attracting selfie-takers.
Ministers Sridhar Babu and Danasari Anasuya Seethakka will perform a special puja to the idol on Shivaratri on February 26.
A visitor to the green crematorium is overwhelmed by the peaceful atmosphere. Thirumala, a resident of Bus Stand Road, said the green crematorium will be an asset for the Mancherial district.
Mancherial Congress MLA K. Premsagar Rao, who was behind the construction of the green crematorium, said the bereaved families will get all facilities including specially designed modern sheds for cremation. There is a special place for the attendants to sit here as the rituals are carried out.
