Maoist-affected districts in Odisha decline from 21 to 7: DGP
“Search operations are actively underway, and we are achieving considerable success,” the DGP stated.

Odisha: Bhubaneswar, April 3: Odisha’s Director General of Police (DGP), YB Khurania, on Thursday stressed the importance of maintaining law and order while urging individuals involved in violence to reintegrate into mainstream society. His appeal came ahead of a review meeting in Sambalpur focused on security arrangements and preparations for Hanuman Jayanti celebrations.
Addressing the Maoist situation in the state, Khurania highlighted a significant decline in Naxal-affected districts—from 21 to just seven. However, he acknowledged ongoing challenges, particularly Maoist movements along the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border.
“Search operations are actively underway, and we are achieving considerable success,” the DGP stated.
During his visit to Sambalpur, Khurania held discussions with Superintendents of Police (SPs) from five districts, reviewing anti-Maoist strategies and broader public safety measures. He assured that Odisha Police remains vigilant and is taking proactive steps to prevent any resurgence of Maoist activities.
Earlier in the day, the DGP attended the Odisha Police Medal Award Ceremony, where officers and personnel from the Northern Range were honoured. He also visited the Samaleswari Temple to seek blessings before proceeding with his official engagements.
“There was a time when 21 districts in Odisha were affected by Maoist activities. That number has now dropped to seven. We are committed to eradicating Maoism from the country by March 31, 2024,” Khurania reaffirmed.
He further stated that Odisha Police is maintaining a strict watch on the state’s borders with Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. “Based on intelligence inputs, we are launching targeted operations, and our efforts have been yielding success,” he added.
