MP: Congress leader slams Rahul Gandhi for ‘anti-Hindu’ remarks, creates flutter in party

Bhopal: Senior Congress leader Lakshman Singh, brother of former chief minister Digvijay Singh, on Tuesday created a flutter in the party circles when he slammed Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi for his alleged anti-Hindu remarks, calling it ‘uncharitable and unnecessary’.

Taking to social media platform X, formerly Twitter, Mr Singh said that it would be appropriate (for Mr Gandhi) to raise issues related to people and the country.

“The remarks made (by Mr Gandhi) against Hindus in the parliament are not only uncharitable but also unnecessary. Issues related to only and only the public and the country should be raised (in the parliament)”, the post in the X by him said.

Former MLA Mr Singh’s comments have created flutter in the Congress with a section of the party viewing it as a challenge to the party leadership.

“It was his personal view and has nothing to do with the party”, a senior Congress leader said, unwilling to be quoted.

BJP has however welcomed Mr Singh’s reaction to Mr Gandhi’s alleged ‘anti-Hindu’ remarks in the parliament, saying that at least he dared to speak the truth.

Meanwhile, state minister Prallhad Patel on Tuesday condemned Mr Gandhi for his alleged ‘offensive’ remarks on the Hindus, calling it ‘an insult to culture and tradition’ (of the country).

“Mr Gandhi has crossed all the limits of decency by describing Indian culture as violent”, he said and added that Mr Gandhi’s maiden speech as LoP has exposed the ‘hidden agenda’ of Congress.

Senior BJP leader and former Union minister Uma Bharti has also taken strong exception to Mr Gandhi’s remarks, saying that the Congress leader behaved like an ‘undisciplined student leader’ and not as a leader’.

“Hindus either fell victim to violence or faced violence”, she said.

Mr Gandhi should give respect to his position, the country and his age, Ms Bharti said and reminded him that he is no longer a youth, but a 50-year-old man.
