Nagarjuna Sagar-Srisailam boat ride after Sankranti: APTDC
AP Tourism Development Corporation plans to restart boat services for temple tourism from Nagarjuna Sagar to Srisailam after Sankranti
Vijayawada: The AP Tourism Development Corporation is planning to resume the boat ride from Nagarjuna Sagar to Srisailam after the Sankranti festival. This is as part of its efforts to promote temple tourism in the state.
APTDC used to operate the tourism boat between Nagarjuna Sagar and Srisailam but the services were suspended following the outbreak of Covid-19 epidemic. After a gap, the tourism authorities intend to resume the boat ride in the coming months.
Conditions apply. For instance, to ensure adequate drought for the boats to ply on Krishna river between Nagarjuna Sagar and Srisailam, the water level has to be maintained at the Srisailam Dam at 570 feet, against the full reservoir level of 885 feet.
It takes nearly six to seven hours for a cruise on the Krishna from Nagarjuna Sagar to reach Pathakam Ganga in Srisailam and vice versa.
Tourism authorities will provide a two-day package including accommodation to the tourists/pilgrims. This would involve a night’s stay at Srisailam, and a ropeway ride the next morning to reach the Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy Varla Devasthanam. After darshan of the lord, they can return to Nagarjuna Sagar.
There are also plans to entertain the tourists/pilgrims for a one-day package to travel from Nagarjuna Sagar to Srisailam.
APTDC general manager (water fleet) Nageswara Rao and Vijayawada divisional manager Krishna Chaitanya are working out the modalities to resume the boat ride. The corporation’s Vijayawada DVM Krishna Chaitanya said, “We are planning to resume the boat ride after the Sankranti festival.”
