Naidu wants DPR on Budameru modernisation immediately
Vijayawada: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has ordered officials to immediately prepare a detailed project report (DPR) on modernisation of Budameru canal to prevent floods in Vijayawada city.
Taking stock of developments after the recent floods in Vijayawada at a review meeting with officials at the Secretariat on Wednesday, he wanted a permanent solution to stop Vijayawada from getting flooded.
The CM underlined that the state will receive funds from the centre in the form of grants to strengthen the Budameru canals and bunds, and to repair the damaged roads.
Officials briefed the Chief Minister about ₹625 crore being provided as financial assistance to 4,21,698 people affected by the Budameru floods. They underlined that only 70 people have not been given their compensation yet because they are yet to activate their bank accounts. Another 200 applications are under consideration. Officials underlined that they will provide assistance to all the eligible people affected by the floods.
Chandrababu Naidu made it clear that the state government has helped the flood victims like never before. However, he expressed dissatisfaction that 262 insurance claims filed by motorists affected by the floods in NTR district have not been settled yet. He ordered officials and representatives of insurance companies to settle all the pending claims within 15 days and display the list of claim settlements at the ward secretariats.
The CM ordered that the compensation paid to small traders affected by the floods be also settled immediately. He wanted people relocated after the floods in Budameru to be rehabilitated on a permanent basis in other areas.
