Names of Sudarshan, Pocharam, Madanmohan surface for ministerial berths

Nizamabad: Speculations are on as to who all would be included as new ministers amid talk of a likely expansion of the Telangana state cabinet in the near future.

Congress rank and file in undivided Nizamabad district are in an eager wait. Senior MLA, P Sudarshan Reddy from Bodhan assembly constituency is front- runner for a ministerial berth.

However, the recently joined Banswada MLA Pocharam Srinivas Reddy’s name is also doing rounds for a berth in the state cabinet. Yellareddy MLA Madanmohan Rao is also a strong contender.

Undivided Nizamabad district had two ministerial berths in every government in united Andhra Pradesh. After formation of the Telangana state, only one minister post was allotted for this region.

Pocharam Srinivas Reddy served as minister in the first term of the TRS government, and Vemula Prashanth Reddy in the second term of the (BRS) government. When the Congress formed the government this time, the undivided Nizamabad district did not get a minister.

Since there are four Reddy nominees including chief minister A Revanth Reddy in the state cabinet, the Congress high command did not allow induction of another Reddy as minister. Hence, Sudarshan Reddy failed to get the minister post.

According to Congress sources, MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy will be inducted into the cabinet when an expansion takes place. However, Yellareddy MLA Madanmohan Rao is also seeking a cabinet berth. Rao has close rapport with the Congress high command. Also, based on social equations, he may get a chance.

The Congress party is encouraging new faces and youths in the government. Madanmohan Rao's followers are hopeful that he will get a chance.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, a Congress leader said a cabinet expansion is not possible immediately. The oath-taking ceremony for the Telangana Congress MPs would take place in New Delhi and there were other preoccupations for the high command. So, the cabinet expansion in Telangana would not take place now, he said.

“The high command is strictly against any over-representation to any community in the state cabinet,” he said.
