Not leopard but a hyena, officials comfort panic-ridden Shamshabad residents

Hyderabad: Forest officials put to rest fears of a leopard’s movement that haunted residents in and around Shamshabad after they found paw marks in the suburbs of Ghansimiaguda village of Shamshabad mandal.

Farmers found the marks and presuming that they were of a leopard, they immediately contacted forest department officials. A team of forest officials reached the spot and scanned the area but could not find any pug marks.

Locals said that a few dogs and a calf had been attacked. However, their fears were comforted when the officials said it could be a hyena or a large dog that had attacked as leopards generally attack the neck of its prey. However, the stray dogs and the calf had injuries on their stomach.

A month ago, a leopard, along with two cubs, was roaming in the RGIA premises. Forest officials set up five cages to trap the leopard. After four days, they captured the animals and shifted them to Amrabad tiger reserve.
