Telangana: Nurses allege 1,000 new recruits not paid

Hyderabad: Health minister C. Damodar Rajanarsimha admitted the delay in salaries of newly appointed staff nurses in a post on X. Among the 6,956 staff nurses appointed by the new government, around 300 have faced delays due to technical issues. However, nurses claimed that over 1,000 of them have not received their salaries since February.

The tweet from the minister’s office said, “After forming the new government, the Chief Minister immediately ensured the recruitment of 6,956 staff nurses to fill vacant posts in health and six other departments. These nurses are working in various hospitals, SC/ST/BC and minority residential schools, and disabled homes. Out of the 6,956 staff nurses, only 300 faced delays in getting salaries due to technical reasons in generating their personal PRAN (Permanent Retirement Account Number) for their salaries to be remitted to their bank account.”

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle on condition of anonymity, a nurse said that the government did not provide any orientation for nurses about documentation and other formalities required for obtaining PRAN.

“The new joinees did not know which documents were required or how to fill out the form. Many did not have their caste forms or identification documents, which affected the salary remittance process. About 1,000 nurses have not received their salaries since February,” the nurse said.
