Odisha: BJD leader arrested for attack on Ravenshaw varsity student

Odisha police arrest BJD student leader Bobby Khan for assaulting a Ravenshaw University student; investigations underway
Bhubaneswar: Odisha police on Sunday arrested a leader of the Biju Janata Dal’s (BJD) student wing in connection with an attack on a student on the premises of Ravenshaw University in Cuttack.

As per reports, a student of the university had filed a complaint with the police alleging assault by the leader, identified as Bobby Khan. The victim alleged that he was stopped en route to a location by a group of miscreants and beaten with iron rods.

According to the report, Khan intercepted the student near the College Square area of Cuttack and forcibly took him inside the Ravenshaw University campus, where he and his associates attacked him violently.

Acting on the complaint, police have now arrested Bobby Khan. Investigations are currently underway to ascertain the motive behind the attack and the alleged involvement of his associates.

The incident raised concerns about safety on the university campus where the group clash, involving Bobby Khan, recently caused a flare-up in tensions.

In September, police had booked BJD MLA Byomkesh Roy and party leaders Lenin Mohanty and Bobby Khan for their role in a group clash during a student torch rally. A scuffle had broken out between two groups near the university's main gate during the rally, with some students claiming they were manhandled by outsiders on the campus.

The BJD had then strongly condemned the complaint against its leaders and argued that the rally was organised peacefully.
