Plea in Telangana HC seeking removal of KCR as leader of opposition

A PIL in Telangana HC seeks K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s removal as leader of opposition over prolonged Assembly absence, citing lack of accountability

Hyderabad: The issue of the prolonged absence of the leader of opposition K. Chandrasekhar Rao from the Legislative Assembly came before the High Court on Thursday, in the form of a PIL.

The petitioner D. Vijaypal Reddy from the federation of farmers association in Telangana complained that Rao was not performing his responsibilities like raising voice on the floor of the house about public issues, especially those concerning farmers.

Hence, the petitioner sought directions to the speaker and the secretary general of the assembly to initiate the disqualification of Rao as the leader of opposition as per rules and procedures about conduct of business in the legislative assembly and as per Article 190(3) and (4) and 191 of the Constitution.

He also requested the court to issue directions to the secretary general to direct BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao to appoint a new leader of opposition if Chandrasekhar Rao had any personal difficulties to attend the house.

The petitioner also requested the court to propose a legal solution by invoking extra judicial powers and redraw the framework for the leader of opposition as regards accountability to democracy in the larger interest of the public.
