‘Police Akka’ Initiative Launched for Women’s Safety: SP

Superintendent of police Akhil Mahajan launched the initiative at a programme in Padma Nayaka Function hall in Rajanna Sircilla district on Tuesday.

The initiative aims to enhance women’s safety in the district and provide her better support. The woman constable, Polica Akka, will visit schools and colleges and will create awareness among girls about POSCO Act, sexual harassment, eve teasing, good touch and bad touch and laws pertaining to safety of women.

The SP ordered officials to place contact numbers of the She Team, Dial 100 and Police Akka in schools and colleges. These numbers will serve as a point of contact for the students to reach out for help whenever they face any issues, he added.

He advised female students to stay away from social media and focus on studies and warned people against harassing or mistreating female students through social media platforms.

If a girl or a woman faces sexual abuse or harassment, then they must dial ‘She Team’ on 8712656425 to lodge complaints so that police can take action against the miscreants, he said.

The SP announced the names of women police constables designated as ‘Police Akka’ at various police stations.

He said the ‘She Team’ in the district has been promptly responding to complaints from students and women and caught 52 miscreants red-handed this year.DCP Chandrasekhar Reddy, CI Krishna, Trainee SI Veenitha and She-Team SI Prameela were present at the event.
