Chennai: Alleging that crores of rupees were swindled by some officials of the department of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj from the funds released by the Union Government for providing housing to people under the Prime Minister’s Awas Yojana during the AIADMK regime, the State BJP wanted the dismissal of the officials concerned.
Party spokesperson A N S Prasad, in a statement on Thursday, said the Department of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption had found that funds meant for the scheme, under which the Union Government provides Rs 2.77 lakh to each of the beneficiaries, had been misappropriated during 2016 to 2020.
He wanted stringent action against the errant officials and also the complete details on the manner in which the funds from the Union Government were utilized during the DMK regime after 2021. There was corruption in the implementation of the other Union Government sponsored schemes, too, he said.
