BJP MP Khagen Murmu Caught in Controversy Over Campaign Kiss
Kolkata: BJP MP Khagen Murmu, who is contesting Lok Sabha Election from the Malda Uttar seat in West Bengal for the second time, has landed in a soup after he was caught allegedly kissing a young woman during his poll campaign.
The incident took place on Monday when Mr Murmu was holding a door-to-door campaign at Sihipur village at Chanchal in his parliamentary constituency. On Tuesday, the Trinamul Congress shared photos of the BJP MP's act on X-handle and attacked him.
It wrote “If you cannot believe what you just saw, let us clarify. Yes, this is BJP MP & Maldaha Uttar candidate @khagen_murmu kissing a woman on his own accord on his campaign trail.”
TMC added, “From MPs that sexually harass women wrestlers to leaders who make obscene songs about Bengali women, BJP camp has no dearth of anti-women politicians. This is how Modi Ka Parivar engages in Nari Ka Samman! Imagine what they would do if they came to power.”
Mr Murmu however did not deny his act. He alleged, “This is the culture of TMC. Each and every family has mothers and daughters. All love a kid. If a thief visits a monk he is also called a monk and vice versa. We contest polls and reach out to the voters. People are like God to us while women are mothers. BJP respects women.”
