BRS Criticises Telangana CM Over Loan Waiver Promise

Harish Rao criticises CM Revanth Reddy for failing to deliver on his promise of Rs 2 lakh farm loan waiver after nine months in power

Warangal: During Assembly election campaign, A. Revanth Reddy, wherever he went, vowed in the names of gods that as soon as the Congress forms the government in the state, he will waive Rs 2 lakh farm loans. However, though nine months have passed, the Chief Minister is yet to fulfil his promise.

Revanth Reddy not only deceived farmers, but also gods on whom he took oath, alleged former minister T. Harish Rao, participating in Rythu Dharna in Jangaon district on Thursday.

Revanth Reddy came to Jangaon where he took oath on Komuravelli Mallanna and promised farmers that the Congress would waive farm loans by August 15. At a meeting in Khammam district, he promised that the Congress will waive 100 per cent of farm loans.

“Then I challenged that if the Congress waives farm loans by August 15, then I will resign, otherwise Revanth Reddy must submit his resignation,” he said.

Let the Chief Minister choose any mandal or any district and ask farmers whether 100 per cent loan waiver took place, he added.

Even his cabinet ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy and Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy themselves accepted that 100 per cent of loan waiver has not taken place. Agriculture minister Tummala Nageshwara also said that out of 49 lakhs of eligible farmers in the state, the scheme applied to only 22 lakhs.

Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka announced that only Rs 7,000 crore of loan waiver took place. People are confused with the announcements made by ministers, he said.

BRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao, by decentralising the farming sector along with sanctioning of Rs 70,000 crore in 11 installments under Rythu Bandhu, made the farmers king. But the situation of farmers became worse under the Congress government.

The BRS will continue to fight against the Congress government in support of farmers until it waives 100 per cent of farm loans, he added.
