Rahul Gandhi to leave Wayanad, hints Kerala PCC chief Sudhakaran

Thiruvananthapuram: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is all set to vacate the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat to opt for Rae Bareli.

While Rahul didn’t give any indications in this regard, Kerala PCC president K Sudhakaran while addressing a meeting to felicitate the Congress leader, said; When we hear that he is leaving Wayanad there is a feeling of sadness. But he has to lead the country hence he cannot confine himself to Wayanad and stay here. There is no point in feeling sad and unhappy. All we can do is extend our full support and best wishes to him.”

On his part, Rahul didn’t give any indication about choosing between Wayanad and Rae Bareli. Addressing meetings in Edavanna, Malappuram and Kalpetta, the Congress leader said there was a dilemma in front of him. “I have a dilemma. The question is will I be the member of Parliament of Wayanad or Rae Bareli? Unlike Narendra Modi who is not a biological person, I am a normal human being, so it is much simpler for me to make a decision. My god is the poor people of India. My god is the people of Wayanad. So, for me it is simple. I will talk to the people and the people of Wayanad will tell me what to do."

While reserving his decision, Rahul Gandhi said; ``I will commit to you one thing that both Wayanad and Rae Bareli will be happy with my decision.” Even at the public meeting in Rae Bareli on Tuesday, Rahul had hinted at good news that he would disclose later.

The Congress leader’s cryptic remarks have sparked off speculations that Priyanka Gandhi might contest from Wayanad.

Rahul thanked the people of Wayanad for standing with him strongly during his trials and tribulations. “I will always remain thankful to the people of Wayanad who stood behind me when a case was registered and there was a move to put me in jail. I will always cherish these lovely memories,” he said.

The Congress leader raised a copy of the Constitution at the meeting as he did during his election rallies and said; `before the elections, you saw BJP leaders threatening to tear up the constitution and throw it away. These statements reflected the arrogance of power. But after the elections, you saw how the prime minister bowed before the constitution. It was a sign that the people of India had spoken their mind."

“I can tell you that the new government formed in Delhi is a crippled one. The opposition has dealt a fatal blow to the BJP: You will see that even Mr Narendra Modi's attitude will have to change," he said.

“Our perspective and our role of opposition will continue. We have proposed an alternative vision for the people of India, a pro-poor, compassionate vision. We will continue to fight for that,” he said.

The Congress leader said arrogance was defeated by humility. The prime minister barely escaped a defeat in Varanasi. BJP was defeated in Ayodhya.

The people of Ayodhya have sent a message to the prime minister "We do not appreciate hatred and violence. The biggest message the people of India have given to the BJP is that we are many traditions, states, religions, and languages and each one has to be respected."
